The Australian Open is one of the world’s most dynamic sporting events, where player outcomes, fan demand and tournament storylines can change overnight. While traditional licensed merchandise programs existed, there was no mechanism to capture and commercialise the excitement of the tournament in real time.
Badge of Honour saw an opportunity that didn’t yet exist. We believed fans would embrace merchandise that celebrated the previous day’s biggest matches and players, delivered before the gates opened the following morning. It was an idea Tennis Australia hadn’t previously considered, and one that required complete trust in an entirely new operating model.
Bringing the concept to life meant overcoming significant challenges, including licensing approvals, unpredictable demand, extremely short production windows and overnight replenishment requirements. The complexity was further heightened by changing stakeholders and licensee managers throughout the partnership, requiring us to continually educate, adapt and rebuild momentum while remaining committed to the vision.
